LONDON —

American Jamie Lynn Gray has set a Olympic record in women's 50-meter three-position qualifying at the London Games.

Gray's score was 592, topping the mark of 589 set by Poland's Renata Mauer-Rozanska at the 1996 Atlanta Games. Gray had a chance to match the world record of 594, falling off that pace on her next-to-last shot of the qualifying session.

The final in the event is Saturday afternoon.

This is the second Olympics for Gray, who was fourth in air rifle and fifth in three-position rifle at the 2008 Beijing Games.
