WIMBLEDON, England —

Venus and Serena Williams advanced to the quarterfinals in Olympic doubles Tuesday by beating Angelique Kerber and Sabine Lisicki of Germany, 6-2, 7-5.

The match drew an overflow crowd on cozy Court 12, and there were plenty of cheers when the sisters moved within one victory of the medal round. They won the gold medal in 2000 and 2008.

Venus Williams, who is also playing singles, seeks a record fourth gold medal in tennis.
