Julia Cohen of the United States upset top-seeded Ksenia Pervak, who was carried off on a stretcher Tuesday after collapsing from heat exhaustion in the first round of the Baku Cup.

She withdrew with the score 6-4, 3-6, 3-2.

Second-seeded Alexandra Panova of Russia edged Sacha Jones of Australia 7-5, 7-6 (7) in the WTA outdoor hard-court event at the Baku Tennis Academy. Fifth-seeded Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia defeated Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
