Bill Conlin wins Spink Award for baseball writing

Bill Conlin of The Philadelphia Daily News has won the Hall of Fame's J.G. Taylor Spink Award for his work as a baseball writer.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. —

Bill Conlin of The Philadelphia Daily News has won the Hall of Fame's J.G. Taylor Spink Award for his work as a baseball writer.

His election by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America was announced Tuesday at the winter meetings. He will be honored at the Hall's induction ceremonies on July 24.

Conlin wrote for the Evening Bulletin before joining the Daily News in 1965. He covered the Phillies from 1966-86, and also was the NL columnist for The Sporting News during that time. He became a sports columnist in 1987.

Conlin has covered 43 spring trainings and 38 baseball postseasons. He authored the "Rutledge Book of Baseball" and "Batting Cleanup, Bill Conlin."
