Reds RHP Volquez leaves game with injury

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez left Saturday night's game against the San Diego Padres with mild back spasms with two outs in the sixth inning.

SAN DIEGO —

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez left Saturday night's game against the San Diego Padres with mild back spasms with two outs in the sixth inning.

Volquez delivered a pitch to Nick Hundley, then went behind the mound and appeared to be trying to stretch his back as he bent forward at the waist with both arms extended.

Reds manager Dusty Baker and assistant trainer Steve Baumann went to the mound before Volquez was removed from the game.

Volquez left the game with a runner on first base, a 3-0 count on Hundley and a 5-2 lead.

Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto was replaced in the field by Adam Rosales in the fourth inning due to mild dizziness. Votto had missed time recently because of the flu.
