Seattle Times staff reporter

KIRKLAND — The Seahawks announced they have signed linebacker Lofa Tatupu to a $42 million contract extension that will run through 2015.

That includes the final two years of the contract he signed as a rookie in 2005 and six additional seasons. Monetary terms of the extension were not announced.

Tatupu was drafted in the second round in 2005 and he is the second player in Seahawks history to be named to the Pro Bowl each of his first three seasons in the league. Fredd Young is the other.

The Seahawks started a different middle linebacker in each of coach Mike Holmgren's first six seasons with the team. That was before Tatupu was drafted in 2005. He has never missed a game in his three seasons with the Seahawks.
