Season's over ... now what?
A few questions and answers at the end of the Huskies' season:
Which players won't be back next season? Forward Hans Gasser and guard Brandon Burmeister are the only seniors. The two combined to average 5.5 of Washington's 76.5 points.
What about Spencer Hawes? That's the big question. The freshman center is leaving the door open on declaring for the NBA draft — he was projected as the No. 6 overall pick at Hoopshype.com on March 1.
What new players are coming in? Despite the possibility of every starter returning, Washington could have seven players in uniform next year who didn't play this season — three who sat out, and four freshmen. The three who sat out are guards Tim Morris (redshirt due to transfer) and Joel Smith (redshirt due to foot injury) and 7-foot center Joe Wolfinger (redshirt due to foot injury). The Huskies have signed three players — 6-9 forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning, 6-8 forward Darnell Gant and 6-6 swingman Justin Holiday. Romar said all could compete for playing time. The Huskies also have a commitment from point guard Venoy Overton of Franklin, expected to sign in the spring.
What does UW need to do better next season? "Take care of the ball and pass better and defend," coach Lorenzo Romar said. "I think we were defending much better at the end of the year. And I think all of those things will take care of themselves with experience and the addition of some new players."
