Hear that crickety-crack? Apparently it's Boston forward Brian Scalabrine.

At 28, the humorous redhead is second only to guard Wally Szczerbiak as the oldest player receiving minutes on the wounded Boston Celtics squad. Yet even Scalabrine couldn't stay completely healthy, catching the flu and missing his team's loss to Golden State on Wednesday.

The Celtics are on a five-game losing skid. Because the team is missing key players like forward Paul Pierce (left foot) and center Kendrick Perkins (plantar fasciitis), coach Doc Rivers has had to use some different lineups, playing Scalabrine more than expected.

Additional court time helped Scalabrine total nine points, four rebounds and two blocks against Denver this week. He even drew applause from the tough Boston crowd the day after his illness for hustle plays against Philadelphia. In the past the Celtics faithful simply booed the former Enumclaw High star.

"I love what the fans did with Scal," Rivers told The Boston Globe. "It was great. The kid only plays hard every night. He said, 'Coach, I can give you five minutes.' I thought it was a smart move by them [to cheer]. They don't know it, but it made Scal feel great."
