The surprising 10-1 start of the Washington State men's basketball team has turned former coach Dick Bennett into a comedian.

"Oh, we see now what the problem was in Pullman, it was getting me out of there," Bennett said to his son and successor, Tony, who retold the quip Tuesday.

The Cougars, who upset Gonzaga on Dec. 5, play a "home" game Thursday at KeyArena at 7:30 p.m. against San Diego State (10-2). Last year, the Cougars beat Utah in KeyArena.

Steve Fisher, who has been the Aztecs' coach since 1999 and will be going for his 300th career win, won the NCAA basketball championship as Michigan's coach at Seattle's Kingdome in 1989.

The Cougars are led by junior Derrick Low, who is averaging 16.1 points and has been used primarily as a shooting guard this season.

San Diego State is led by senior guard Brandon Heath, who is averaging 19.8 points.
