News on injury "really good today," Hasselbeck says

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, coach Mike Holmgren said this afternoon. Team doctors say Hasselbeck will miss around three games.

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, coach Mike Holmgren said this afternoon.

Team doctors told Holmgren that Hasselbeck will miss around three games. By that prognosis, Hasselbeck's return game will be at San Francisco on Nov. 19.

Hasselbeck spoke to reporters later in the day and admitted he feared his injury was worse after it happened. Hasselbeck was hit by Minnesota Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson after releasing a pass in the third quarter and left the game.

"The news on the MRI was really good today, and I feel really lucky," Hasselbeck said. "So now I just have to get better."

Hasselbeck said he'll try to be there to help and support Seneca Wallace, who takes over at quarterback in Hasselbeck's absence.

"As upset as I am in not being out there, I'm excited that he's going to get a chance to play and show what he can do," Hasselbeck said of Wallace.

Regarding the play on which he was hurt, Hasselbeck felt it was over after his pass and relaxed.

He expressed some frustration with Henderson, who after the game claimed he tried to avoid rolling into Hasselbeck's leg.

"I don't think it was unavoidable," Hasselbeck said," but only he will know.
