What's next — "Will Catch For Food"?
Dodgers catcher Jason Phillips wasn't holding up a cardboard sign, but he was certainly crying poor when the subject of steroid suspensions was thrown his way. "Do I think the penalties (for using steroids) are a little harsh?" Phillips told the Los Angeles Times. "Yes. Not for, say, the guys who have already been in the big leagues a lot of years and are making millions. (But) put yourself in my position. I play paycheck to paycheck to support my family.
"What are you supposed to do (if suspended)? Go work at Burger King for 50 days because you're not getting paid because you ate five poppy-seed muffins?"
For the record, Phillips is living paycheck to paycheck on $339,000 this season.

Crossings Community Church in Lake Mary, Fla., will be happier than usual to see golfer Jim Thorpe attending services this Sunday.
That's because Thorpe, who earned a check for $247,500 by winning the FedEx Kinko's Classic on the Champions Tour, plans to hand it all over to seed the church's building fund for a new 15,000-square-foot facility.
"We all change in life," Thorpe told the Orlando Sentinel. "I've hit every horse track, every casino. I don't feel that I've done a lot of bad things, but maybe it's time to pay up."
