Marvin Williams, Bremerton's 6-foot-9 forward, gave an oral commitment to North Carolina. Still, a few believe the 17-year-old could make the leap from preps to pros. Williams talked to The Times last week at KeyArena, where he was attending a Sonics-Minnesota Timberwolves game.

Seattle Times: The rumors are swirling. Are you considering a jump to the NBA?

Marvin Williams: Nah. I haven't really thought about anything like that.

ST: Is it important for you to make it to the NBA?

MW: It's not really important. It's a dream that I've had ever since I was a little kid. But if I don't, there's other things that I can do.

ST: When did you fall in love with the game?

MW: My dad used to play basketball, so I used to watch him all the time and tried to do the stuff that he did. Ever since then, since I was like, 3, I just kept doing it.

ST: You're living proof that anybody can make it from anywhere, aren't you?

MW: Bremerton is real small, but that's where I'm from. If you put your mind to it, you can do it.

ST: Who's your favorite player?

MW: I like Kevin Garnett (Minnesota forward). He just plays so hard all the time.

ST: You're gonna meet Kevin (tonight). What will you say to him?

MW: I don't really talk about basketball. I just want to see how he is. I've looked up to him for so long. It's nice to meet him.
