D.C. United edges Sporting Kansas City in MLS

Fabian Espindola scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season to lead D.C. United to a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City in a Major League Soccer match.

WASHINGTON – Fabian Espindola scored his seventh goal of the season to lead D.C. United to a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City in a Major League Soccer match Saturday.

Bill Hamid made five saves to preserve his third shutout and D.C.’s fifth this season.

United’s victory was its first over Sporting Kansas City since a 2-1 decision May 5, 2010, with Kansas City winning six matches and drawing one since.

Defending league champion Sporting Kansas City (5-5-4) had its winless streak stretched to five matches as D.C. United (6-4-3) climbed past it into second in the Eastern Conference behind leader New England (7-4-2).

At Impact 2, Revs 0

Andres Romero and Jack McInerney scored in the first half of Montreal’s victory over New England. The Impact ended the Revolution’s winning streak at five.

At Toronto FC 3, Crew 2

Jermain Defoe scored twice and Doneil Henry headed in the winner with about a minute left in injury time for Toronto FC.

Quakes 2, at FC Dallas 1

Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi snapped a tie in the 45th minute and San Jose beat FC Dallas. Dallas is 0-6-2 in its last eight matches and has failed to score multiple goals during that span.

Union 3, at Chivas USA 0

Conor Casey scored twice as Philadelphia beat Chivas USA in Carson, Calif.
