Robbie Keane scores as Galaxy defeats Whitecaps 1-0

Robbie Keane scored 1:11 into the second half and the Los Angeles Galaxy held on to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 on Saturday night.

CARSON, Calif. — Robbie Keane scored 1:11 into the second half and the Los Angeles Galaxy held on to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 on Saturday night.

Keane scored off Stefan Ishizaki’s cross, racing into the goal mouth to volley past goalkeeper David Ousted for his third goal of the season.

The Galaxy improved to 2-1-1 with its second straight victory.

Vancouver (2-2-2), which will be home against Los Angeles next weekend, had three strong scoring opportunities in the first half, but struggled in the second half.

Chivas USA 1, at Timbers 1

Erick Torres scored in the 79th minute to help Chivas USA tie Portland, leaving the Timbers winless at 0-2-4.

Torres scored off a cross from Leandro Barrera for his fifth goal of the season for Chivas USA (1-2-3).

At D.C. United 1, Red Bulls 0

Davy Arnaud scored on a diving header in the fourth minute in D.C. United’s victory over the New York Red Bulls (0-2-4). United (2-2-1) has won consecutive games for the first time since the end of the 2012 season.

At Union 2, Real Salt Lake 2

Maurice Edu scored on a header off Cristian Maidana’s corner kick in the 90th minute to give Philadelphia the tie with Real Salt Lake (2-0-4). Newcomer Andrew Wenger also scored for Philadelphia (1-1-4).

Fire 1, at Impact 1

Quincy Amarikwa scored in the 54th minute and Chicago (0-1-5) tied Montreal at Olympic Stadium, leaving both teams winless. Newcomer Jack McInerney scored in the 42nd minute for Montreal (0-3-3).

At Revolution 1, Dynamo 0

Kevin Alston and Jerry Bengtson scored second-half goals to lead New England past Houston. New England (2-3-1) won for the second time its past three games and avenged a 4-0 loss at Houston in the opener. The Dynamo (2-3-0) has lost three straight.

Rapids 1, at Toronto FC 0

Former Toronto forward Edson Buddle scored his 99th MLS goal — from close range in the 77th minute — to help Colorado (3-1-1) beat Toronto (3-2-0).
