VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Vancouver Whitecaps have found themselves a goal scorer — he's a good Canadian kid, eh — and welcomed back a slumping one.
Russell Teibert, the 20-year-old Niagara Falls, Ontario, native who came up through the Whitecaps residency program, scored his first two MLS goals and striker Darren Mattocks scored his first in seven games in stoppage time as Vancouver snapped a couple of winless streaks with a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy at B.C. Place.
It was the first win in eight MLS games for the Whitecaps (3-4-3), who were 0-4-3 in their previous seven.
Vancouver was 0-4-1 against the Galaxy (4-3-2) in their first two regular seasons and lost a playoff game, 2-1, in Los Angeles last season.
"I was overwhelmed to score the first goal and then the second one came ... the feeling is extraordinary," Teibert said.
