PORTLAND — Goalkeeper Hope Solo tried to diffuse the drama surrounding her personal life as the U.S. soccer team prepared for Wednesday's exhibition match against Ireland.
Solo, a former Washington Huskies standout from Richland, made her first appearance with the national team since she was married to Jerramy Stevens on Nov. 13, a day after the ex-UW and Seahawks tight end's arrest at a party in Kirkland on suspicion of domestic violence.
"It's unfortunate what the media can do to judge before the facts are out there," the 31-year-old Solo said after a workout. "It's hard to see, but it's a hard truth, and it's part of life. I'm happy. I'm happily married.
"I would never stand for domestic violence. I've never been hit in my life."
Later, Solo said, "We're happy, and ultimately that's all that matters."
