VANCOUVER, B.C. — Camilo scored a goal and added an assist to help the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-1 Major League Soccer victory over Real Salt Lake.
The Whitecaps improved to 10-7-7 and avenged a July 27 loss to Real Salt Lake in Utah. Vancouver and Sounders FC are tied for third place in the MLS Western Conference with 37 points, though the Whitecaps have played one more match.
Real Salt Lake (13-9-3) lost its second consecutive match and fourth straight on the road, but is second in the West with 42 points — five behind league-leading San Jose.
Camilo scored Vancouver's first goal in the 58th minute to end his 12-match scoring drought. It was his fourth goal of the season and first since May 19 against Sounders FC.
The Brazilian winger led the Whitecaps with 12 goals in 2011, but has struggled this season while battling a thigh injury.
Dane Richards scored Vancouver's other goal in the 64th minute. Nat Borchers scored for Real Salt Lake in stoppage time.
Vancouver goalkeeper Brad Knighton made his first start for the team, as Joe Cannon was suspended because he got a red card in the previous match against Real Salt Lake for touching the ball outside the 18-yard area.
