Sounders FC continued its commitment to bright and bold uniforms Friday, unveiling a flashy new third look for the 2012 season called "super cyan."

The jersey, shorts and socks will be primarily blue-green with electricity yellow accents; the combination will be worn for CONCACAF Champions League, U.S. Open Cup and friendly matches to stand out from MLS games.

Electricity yellow had been Seattle's third uniform the past two seasons.

"Super cyan is an evolution of the Sounders FC distinct color palette," said majority owner Joe Roth in a news release. "The super cyan kit with the electricity trim definitely sets the Sounders apart."

The third uniforms, which feature a collar for the first time, have received mixed reviews from fans. They are available for purchase online at SoundersFC.com and at pro shops downtown and at CenturyLink Field.

A picture of the cyan look was "leaked" on Twitter earlier this month.

Seattle's primary jersey color will remain rave green. Cascade shale will continue as the secondary look, primarily for road MLS games when rave green is in conflict with the home team.

The Sounders' initial colors in 2009 were rave green and Sounder blue. Electricity yellow was added as a third kit the following season, and shale replaced blue as the secondary uniform in 2011.

Note

• Sounders FC midfielder Mauro Rosales finished fifth in MLS MVP voting, according to results released Friday. D.C. United midfielder Dwayne De Rosario won the award, recording 16 goals and 12 assists this season.
