The goals for the Sounders Women this weekend are threefold.
The first one is simple: Win. Seattle is hosting the W-League Final Four at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, and a chance to win the franchise's first league championship is on the line.
Second, a little financial gain as organizers of the event would be nice.
And the third?
"A big part of this is getting some notoriety that will last down the line," said general manager Jon Billings.
For the Sounders Women, the ultimate goal is to play at a higher level. That could mean a jump to Women's Professional Soccer — the top but financially struggling women's pro league in America — or simply making improvements within the organization.
"We're actually considering everything," said Billings, "and this weekend can really create some momentum and turn some heads.
"I can't tell you how often I talk to someone in the business world or even just a fan and say something about the Sounders Women, and they turn their head and say, 'Hey, I didn't know we had the Sounders Women. That's great!' I think the support would be there if everyone knew about it."
Seattle, coached by former A-League/USL Sounder Leighton O'Brien, takes on the undefeated Ottawa Fury in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Atlanta Silverbacks play the Vancouver Whitecaps in the earlier semifinal at 4 p.m. The W-League championship game is 4 p.m. Sunday, preceded by a consolation match at 12:30 p.m.
Day tickets are $10 and weekend passes are $15. Children under 10 are free.
Seattle, which advanced automatically to the semifinals as host, also made it to the Final Four in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
