Rewind | Chat with Sounders FC broadcasters Arlo White & Jimmy Gabriel
Latest from the Sounders FC blog
Sounders FC renews its passionate I-5 rivalry with the Portland Timbers on May 14 and play-by-play announcer Arlo White and legendary Sounders player/coach Jimmy Gabriel, who provides analysis on radio, talked about the showdown at Qwest Field.
White is in his second season as the "Voice of Sounders FC" after working the previous nine years with BBC Radio Sport in England.
A native of Leicester, England, White has also covered the UEFA Champions League, the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games and cricket tournaments all over the world as well as the 2010 World Cup.
Gabriel, from Scotland, enjoyed a productive career in the Scottish and English First Divisions with several clubs including Dundee, Everton and Southampton.
In 1974, he joined the original Seattle Sounders as a player/assistant coach and spent six seasons with the club. He took over as head coach in 1977 and guided the team to the Western Conference championship, but suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the New York Cosmos in the NASL title game.
White and Gabriel discussed the big game, what the rivalry means for soccer in the Northwest and much more in a live chat on May 10.
