MLS Cup History | D.C. United takes second consecutive cup in 1997
Seattle will host the 14th MLS Cup, Nov. 22 at Qwest Field. This is the second in a series of stories about the first 13 MLS Cups.

Oct. 26, 1997
RFK Stadium, Washington, D.C.
D.C. United 2, Colorado Rapids 1
D.C. United became back-to-back league champion, this time in front of its home fans. The second-largest soccer crowd in stadium history, 57,431, witnessed the match despite rain and a temperature of 46 degrees.
Forward Jaime Moreno was named the game's Most Valuable Player and scored in the 37th minute. D.C. got a second goal from Tony Sanneh, and that was enough to hold off the Rapids.
Colorado's lineup featured current Sounders FC technical director Chris Henderson and goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, a Seattle native. Henderson took four shots. The Rapids stepped up the pressure on offense in the game's final 10 minutes but couldn't draw even.
