Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders hit Crystal Mountain last weekend, and six more inches of snow coated the upper hillsides Monday, allowing the resort to reopen Wednesday.
“We’ve got enough snow to allow us to go ahead and run with limited operations from Wednesday through Sunday,” said Tiana Enger, the Crystal Mountain marketing director.
The Crystal Gondola will take passengers to the summit and Green Valley lift, which will be open each day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The area will be closed Monday to Nov. 27, and open again on Nov. 28. Tickets will be $25, and children under age 10 are $5.
“Once we get past Thanksgiving our hope is that Mother Nature is good so that we’ll be able to stay open for the rest of the season,” Enger said.
Crystal has a base of 3 inches with 30 inches on the summit, and a cumulative total of 45 inches.
Mount Baker Ski Area’s season opener will be 9 a.m. Thursday, after 10 inches of snow had fallen since Monday. Baker has 43 inches on top of Pan Dome and 37 inches on the base at Heather Meadows.
Baker will be operating the White Salmon and Heather Meadows Base areas with at least seven chairs open. Guests must stay on the open main runs only. Discounted ticket prices will be offered Thursday and Friday.
Heavy rainfall and a climbing freezing elevation Monday prompted Stevens Pass Resort to change its stance on remaining open for skiing and snowboarding until further notice. Stevens will assess conditions and make a determination soon on when it can reopen.
More than 1,000 people turned out for Saturday’s opener at Stevens Pass, which has a base of 24 inches and summit total of 40 inches with a cumulative snow total of 63 inches.
An early season winter storm dumped plenty of snow across statewide mountains, allowing Stevens Pass, Crystal Mountain and 49 Degrees North to open last weekend.
