The Seattle University women claimed sole possession of the Western Athletic Conference regular-season title with their 55-53 win over Idaho alongside Utah State's 80-72 loss to UT San Antonio.

The Redhawks (18-9, 15-3) earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye for next week's conference tournament in Las Vegas. They also extended their winning streak to seven games and finished the regular season undefeated at home in conference play.

Ashley Ward, who had nine points and seven assists, hit the game-winning jumper with two seconds left.

Sylvia Shepard and Brenda Adhiambo scored 13 points each for SU. Kacie Sowell had 10 points and 15 rebounds.

"Ashley (Ward) has ice water in her veins," said SU coach Joan Bonvicini. "We have kids who are smart, work hard and don't care who gets the credit. I'm just so proud to be their coach. To be able to win the (regular-season title) outright is not only great for the program but great for the university."

At Idaho 76, SU men 72

Seattle University held the lead through most of the first half and the beginning of the second half, but a barrage of three-pointers from Idaho helped the Vandals defeat the Redhawks 76-72 in the regular-season finale.

Chad Rasmussen scored 16 points for the Redhawks (8-21, 3-15) and D'Vonne Pickett Jr. had 11. Kyle Barone scored 27 points for Idaho (12-17, 7-11).

For the WAC tournament in Las Vegas, SU, seeded 10th, will face No. 7 Texas State in the first round Tuesday.
