Ashley Ward drove to the bucket for a game-winning layup as the buzzer sounded to lift the Seattle University women's basketball team to a 56-54 victory over Texas-San Antonio in Western Athletic Conference action Saturday at Connolly Center.

The Redhawks had a 54-50 lead, but two layups by the Roadrunners' Cori Cooper tied the score with 11 seconds left.

Seattle U called time out with three seconds left and set the stage for Ward.

The Redhawks (17-9, 14-3 WAC) remain a half-game ahead of Utah State (16-11, 13-3). UTSA drops to 14-13, 8-8. The Redhawks have won six games in a row.

Seattle's Sylvia Shephard led all players with 14 points, adding five rebounds. Brenda Adhiambo also scored in double figures at 10 points and Kacie Sowell grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Redhawks (8-19, 3-14 WAC) used defense to contribute to a record-setting poor shooting night by the Roadrunners (8-20, 3-13) and to break a six-game losing streak. UTSA set school records for fewest points in a half (11) and worst shooting from the field (12 for 53, 22.6 percent). Chad Rasmussen made five three-pointers and scored 19 points for Seattle.
