PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young finished the game on a 21-6 run, rallying for a 70-62 nonleague women's basketball victory over Seattle University Thursday night.

Aggressive defense helped the Redhawks (3-6) open a double-digit lead early in the second half. A steal and layup by Sylvia Shephard gave them a 46-35 lead, the largest of the game.

Seattle still led, 56-49 after a Kacie Sowell basket with 7:23 remaining. But a hot-shooting BYU (8-4) team wiped out the deficit in the final seven minutes.

Shephard led the Redhawks with 14 points and five steals. Daidra Brown added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and Brenda Adhiambo contributed eight points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals for Seattle.

Sowell struggled with foul trouble and finished with nine points and four rebounds, less than half her season average in both categories.

Haley Steed had 18 points, seven assists and five steals, and Jennifer Hamson scored 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting for the Cougars. BYU shot 60 percent (24 of 40) from the field, including 18 of 22 inside the three-point line.

The Redhawks shot 51.1 percent (23 of 45) and made 15 steals. They scored 20 points off turnovers.
