JONESBORO, Ark. — Aaron Broussard kept Seattle University close with a hot first half, but Arkansas State pulled away to hand the Redhawks their fourth consecutive men's basketball defeat Wednesday night, 87-74.

Broussard, a 6-foot-5 senior from Federal Way, scored 19 of his 25 points before halftime. The Redhawks (2-6) trailed only 38-34 at the break despite nine first-half turnovers.

Gary Trent scored Seattle's first eight points of the second half, but back-to-back three-pointers from Marcus Hooten and Ed Townsel extended Arkansas State's lead to 47-40. Another Hooten three gave the Red Wolves their first double-digit lead.

Sterling Carter hit three three-pointers in a four-minute span to leave the Redhawks down only 61-55. But Arkansas State (5-5), despite missing six consecutive free throws, pulled away late in the second half.

Trent had 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting and Eric Wallace had 12 points and 13 rebounds for Seattle. Carter finished with 12 points, all on three-pointers in the second half.

Townsel led Arkansas State with 20 points. Malcom Kirkland (18 points, 13 rebounds) and Brandin Peterson (17 points, 12 rebounds) had double-doubles for the home team, which out-rebounded the Redhawks 45-36.

Seattle plays at Utah State on Saturday.
