What a wacky month it's been for Clarence Trent.
After a lackluster freshman season with Washington men's basketball, he joined the football team but lasted just two weeks before quitting.
"I discovered that I love football, but I'm in love with basketball," Trent said Monday.
The 6-foot-5 forward talked about renewing his commitment to basketball and carving out a role on a crowded UW Sweet 16 team that lost just two players.
Trent's career took another unexpected turn when UW confirmed Wednesday that he'll transfer across town to Seattle University to play for former UW assistant Cameron Dollar.
"He will be in a good situation for himself in that he will be with Cameron Dollar," Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar said in a statement. "We'll still get to follow him, and we wish him well."
Trent is no stranger to transferring. Seattle U. is his sixth school since he started high school.
He began at River Ridge High School in Lacey before transferring to Gig Harbor, where he played two seasons. He moved to Nevada and played at Findlay Prep as a senior, before playing at The Patterson School in Lenoir, N.C.
Trent will have to sit out next season under NCAA transfer rules but will have three years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2011-12 season.
Trent dazzled Huskies fans with acrobatic dunks in the final minutes of blowout victories. But he was buried at the end of the bench and averaged just 1.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 5.2 minutes in 23 games.
At Seattle U., Trent may slide into the role vacated by one-year wonder Charles Garcia, a former UW recruit who ended up at Seattle U. and left school early for the NBA draft.
Trent is the second Husky to transfer in the past week, following sophomore Elston Turner Jr. Washington now has two scholarships available and will vie for Portland recruits Terrence Jones and Terrence Ross.
