What a coincidence that I was at Gas Works Park sketching just two days ago. I went back today after reading Susan Gilmore's story about the papier-mâché sculptures that appeared here overnight.

"It's neat we get to see this because it may not be here tomorrow," said Terrie Abrahamson, who stumbled upon the guerrilla art while in the park with her family. Terrie and her husband Danny had biked with their kids from Matthews Beach to spend the afternoon at the park. "I think it may mean you're supposed to get things done," said their 11-year-old Oliver. "It's a cool piece of art. It's interesting," said 7-year-old Eli.

The set of sculptures included a plaque with this writing:

"Anew is gifted to the citizens of Seattle in the spirit of awakening. Each of us has shells to break through, parameters to look past and wills to exercise. Arise and stand. If still here I will remove once the rains return."

Danny Abrahamson commended the selfless nature of the gift. "I love how someone would take the time the create something like this to share with people," he said.

When I wake up tomorrow I'm going to be thinking of these golden figures breaking out of their shells. To the guerrilla artist behind the pieces, thanks for a thought-provoking and visually engaging experience. Seattle wouldn't be the same without guerrilla artists like you.
