Golden opportunity: Tate breaks through
By Danny O'Neil | The Seattle Times
Receiver Golden Tate is "finally" playing like Seattle expected. That's a storyline that is pretty much agreed upon as he has six touchdown catches this season, but when you look at his numbers compared to the rest of the receivers drafted in the second round, his first two seasons weren't all that sub-par.
Tate was one of 51 wide receivers to be drafted in the second round from 2000 to 2011. When you look at his numbers compared to the average of those other receivers, it's pretty telling:
| First year | Rec. | Yards | Avg. catch | TDs |
| Average 2nd round pick (2000-2011) | 27.2 | 358.9 | 13.2 | 2.06 |
| Golden Tate, 2010 | 21 | 227 | 10.8 | 0 |
| Second year | Rec. | Yards | Avg. catch | TDs |
| Average 2nd round pick (2000-2010) | 28.1 | 383.9 | 13.7 | 2.3 |
| Golden Tate, 2011 | 35 | 382 | 10.9 | 0 |
| Third year | Rec. | Yards | Avg. catch | TDs |
| Average 2nd round pick (2000-2009) | 31.1 | 444.1 | 14.3 | 2.9 |
| Golden Tate, 2012 (Projected) | 41.6 | 534.4 | 12.8 | 9.6 |
