Russell Wilson, Seahawks finding success in the red zone
That's not an accident.
"That's definitely an emphasis," said Darrell Bevell, Seattle's offensive coordinator. "We've always talked about that our philosophy down there is touchdown to check down. We want to be able to take looks into the end zone. We're continually growing. We're trying to get better every time we go out there, and Russ has been able to do that."
That was probably manifested best on his touchdown throw to Sidney Rice in the first quarter of Sunday's game when Wilson made time, then waited for Rice to drag across the back of the end zone, clear of all traffic before throwing the ball for an 11-yard touchdown.
"He ended up moving his feet, and then finding Sidney late in the play so he was able to extend the play," Bevell said. "Obviously, that's one of his strengths. Then, I think we've been really trying to emphasize that."
