This one takes a little history to understand. Like way back in 2009 when Pete Carroll was at USC and Mark Sanchez decided to enter the NFL Draft with one year of eligibility remaining.

"We don't see this decision the same. ... Mark is going against the grain on this decision. He knows that. He knows that coming out early is a tremendous challenge for a quarterback. And the statistics don't back up that it's easy to be successful the way he's going about it. We know that, he knows that ... I don't agree with the assessment of the decision."

Well, Sanchez started in the AFC Championship each of the first two years, and on Wednesday, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan said he didn't blame Carroll for his opinion, but he also didn't think he was being honest. Here is what Ryan said during his press conference with New York media on Wednesday:

""I did not blame Pete Carroll one bit because if I had that young man as my quarterback, I'd say whatever it took to get the guy to stay with me. Like, "Oh you're not ready son. As far as you know you're not ready to play." Deep down he knew he was ready."

Update, 1:45 p.m.: Carroll addressed Sanchez's entry into the NFL during his press conference Wednesday:

"I told him exactly what I felt. After long discussions with his father, who was very much a part of that, we went straight at it. There was no other agendas, there was just telling him.

"He had only had the benefit of starting 16 games, I think, something like that. And knew that it would be great for him to be as absolutely prepared and as experienced as he could be, before going in.

"There was nobody in the world that was more thrilled than me when he did well, in his first year. I thought they did a great job, he won his first three games. Then he struggled a little bit, then they came back and got going and get all the way into the playoffs and go deep into it. I just couldn't be more fired up for him, and the reason was that Mark had his mind set on doing this.

"He was determined to prove that he could do it, and I support him in that, and I love that he was feeling that way. I just told him what I knew was the truth, and he could have been better prepared if we'd have had him for another year. And I think it would have served him even better. Mark and I get along great, and I love what he's doing, and follow him every week, and it will be really fun playing against him this week."
