Seahawks release Charly Martin
Martin was essentially Doug Baldwin's backup as the slot specialist, and Baldwin returned last week from a high ankle sprain.
What the move means: It points to the likelihood that Braylon Edwards will be back this week, serving as Seattle's fifth receiver. Jermaine Kearse is on the 53-man roster, primarily in a special-teams role.
It also points to the likelihood that Walter Thurmond will be activated this week. He is currently on the Physically Unabale to Perform (PUP) list, and Seattle has until Monday to activate him. Martin's departure leaves an opening on the 53-man roster.
