WR Ben Obomanu out for the season, Jermaine Kearse promoted to Seahawks roster
Obomanu is in his seventh year with the Seahawks, and served as Seattle's utility receiver and special-teams mainstay. He was a physical blocker, used in one-receiver, two tight end sets. He was on the field when Seattle's Marshawn Lynch scored on a 77-yard touchdown run Sunday in Detroit.
Obomanu suffered a wrist injury and was seen by a specialist Monday. With Doug Baldwin unlikely to be ready to return from a high ankle sprain, and Braylon Edwards' status uncertain because of his knee, Seattle had the need for immediate help at wide receiver.
That will come from Jermaine Kearse, an undrafted rookie and former Husky who has been on Seattle's practice squad.
Kearse has played well in practice, and specifically showed great rapport with quarterback Russell Wilson during training camp.
He will be active and could play Sunday when Seattle faces Minnesota.
Also, Seattle released cornerback Danny Gorrer, who had not played in a game since being signed this season. That move opens up a spot that Walter Thurmond could fill.
Thurmond has been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, recovering from a broken fibula, which was fractured for the second time in a year back in March. Seattle has until Nov. 5 to activate Thurmond, release him or place him on injured reserve.
