Marshawn Lynch speaks, we all listen: "Whatchoosay, bruh?"
It has been a while since I've enjoyed transcribing an athlete's quotes as much as I like writing out what Lynch has said. Gary Payton was the same way. He might make a grammarian wince, but man, was it poetic the way it came out of his mouth.
He's guaranteed to make you smile a few times, and probably laugh out loud at least once. While Lynch's status might be a little bit of a question mark for the regular-season opener, he was in regular-season form in his interview, starting with his reference to his confidence in Robert Turbin, Kregg Lumpkin and Leon Washington.
"If my situation was to where I wasn't able to play," Lynch said, "I would be pleased with what we have going into the game as far as Rob, Lump and Leon toting the pill."
Of course, everyone in Seattle would be pleased if Lynch were able to tote the pill as well.
• As for the offense's effectiveness in going unbeaten in four exhibition games?
"It's just good to see that that all of that work we put in in camp has paid off for everyone," Lynch said. "And then with our defense playing the way that they've been playing, we don't even need an offense."
• How about the youth movement with nine rookies on the 53-man roster, three of whom will start?
"With the way that coach is, he don't mind playing a young guy," Carroll Lynch said. "And if it was up to him, he would probably have a team running around with a bunch of 15-year-olds if he could. It's just great that the strides that they come in, and I feel that there's enough veterans around them that they don't have to save the day, but to come in and play a valuable role, and veterans around them will make sure they stop on top of what they need to do and be able to play their game."
Of course, Marshawn has his own way of saying things, and to help with that, we'll give you a translator:
