"Just like to see him do like he has been doing, just log some more time, because of the big game he missed in Game 3, we're just going to play him a little bit more because of that.

"He took a real good turn this week," Carroll said. "And the rehab that he has been doing has really been effective so we think he's going to be fine."

• WR Doug Baldwin will not play, meaning he will miss all four exhibition games with a hamstring injury, but Carroll said the team's leading receiver from a year ago will be back practicing on Monday and available for the regular-season opener.

"Doug ran really hard yesterday," Carroll said. "I watched his workout at top speed. He's ready to go for us on Monday."

  DL Jason Jones won't play this week, resting a knee that he had surgery upon back in January. Jones played only in the first exhibition game, missed the second game because he was ill and has not practiced since as the team has rested his knee.

"As he had to endure the rigors of camp, we needed to slow him down," Carroll said. "It has just been a maintenance thing. He's in good shape. He'll be ready for the opener."

• Guard John Moffitt is expected to play Thursday after returning from elbow surgery this week. Moffitt had surgery to remove loose particles that were causing pain in his elbow. Rookie J.R. Sweezy is still expected to start at right guard Thursday, and Carroll left open the possibility he might begin the regular season, too.

"We're just going one game at a time there," Carroll said. "He's handled it very well. He's got another opportunity tomorrow night, and we'll just see. John's just getting back into it ... There's a lot to be evaluated there, but we're comfortable with Sweezy going right now. If that's the way it is, he would be starting. It's amazing."

• Safety Chris Maragos will sit out Thursday's game with a shoulder injury.
