Flag football: Pete Carroll tries to crack down on penalties

Earlier this week, I put the Seahawks' recent litany of penalties under coach Pete Carroll in perspective of franchise history.

And given that Seattle was generally among the least penalized teams in the league in Mike Holmgren's 10 years, it's possible to point to the penalties under Carroll and make it seem like Dennis Erickson is back in charge.

But there's another person's history to consider here: Carroll's. And if you look at the penalties on the previous NFL teams where Carroll has been the head coach, penalties have never been a signature of his coaching tenures.

The Seahawks set a franchise record for penalties last year under Pete Carroll, and they've ranked in the lower half of the league in terms of penalties each of his two seasons. But looking at his history, that's not indicative of his NFL teams:
