Matt Flynn: 'I don't feel like I have the inside track'
RENTON -- A second consecutive exhibition-game start is a pretty strong sign of where Matt Flynn stands in the Seahawks quarterback competition.
Just not to Flynn.
"I don't feel like I have an inside track or anything like that," Flynn said. "Just going out there, and putting my hard hat on every day and working."
In fact, Flynn didn't find out he would be starting the second exhibition game until after coach Pete Carroll said that during his press conference after Tuesday's practice.
"We talked afterwards," Flynn said. "Y'all just got to him first."
So it turns out that Carroll has kept his quarterback competition schedule a mystery to everyone, and that includes the quarterbacks who are competing.
Not that Flynn minds.
"I'm just going where they tell me to go and doing the best I can," he said.
Flynn practiced with the first-unit offense on Wednesday, Russell Wilson worked with the backups while Tarvaris Jackson and Josh Portis split the remainder of the practice time.
And while Flynn will be the starter for a second consecutive week, that doesn't mean that anything has been decided in terms of regular-season plans.
"
All indications say that we're still competing all just the same," Flynn said. "I think that it's another great opportunity for me because I do get to go in there, get reps with the ones, try to get my feet under me a little bit more. And get a great chance to go out there and execute and try to put some points up. But I don't feel like I have an inside track or anything like that. Just going out there, and putting my hard hat on every day and working."
Wednesday practice notes
• FB Michael Robinson returned to practice. So did SS Jeron Johnson, and he spent time working with the first-unit defense.
• LB Malcolm Smith remains out with a hamstring injury. LB Mike Morgan didn't practice Wednesday, which left rookie Korey Toomer working with the second-unit defense.
TEs Zach Miller (concussion), Anthony McCoy and Cameron Morrah all sat out Wednesday's practice.
• Backup center Lemuel Jeanpierre did not practice after injuring his groin during Tuesday's practice. Rishaw Johnson moved from guard to center to fill that spot.
