Seahawks G John Moffitt likely to undergo elbow surgery; out 2-3 weeks
RENTON -- Guard John Moffitt has been diagnosed with loose bodies in his left elbow, and is expected to undergo surgery to remove them, according to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
He would be out two weeks to three weeks, Carroll said, but is expected to be available when the regular season begins Sept. 9 in Arizona.
"He's got a couple of loose bodies that are hanging around in there, causing him some pain," Carroll said. "It wasn't really an injury, but kind of a situation over time. It showed up this week so we're going to likely get him worked on and fixed as fast as possible."
Deuce Lutui will start at right guard for Seattle's exhibition opener against Tennessee on Saturday.
"He's huge," Carroll said of Lutui. "He's experienced. He's a tough guy. He's picking things up. A little different style of offense in the running than he has been accustomed to ... But I'm anxious to see how he does. His attitude that he brings, and his experience, would really be nice to have on our line."
Lutui is competing for a roster spot with rookies J.R. Sweezy and Rishaw Johnson.
Other players who will not dress for Saturday's exhibition game: WR Doug Baldwin (hamstring), WR Ricardo Lockette (inflamed leg), WR Sidney Rice (shoulders) are not going to play, and it's unlikely LB Barrett Ruud will be available. He missed Friday's practice because of a sore knee.
WR Terrell Owens will not play in the game as he hasn't been wit the team long enough.
Don't expect Marshawn Lynch to get much work, either. In fact, he may not even play.
"Marshawn will not get a bunch of carries in this game," Carroll said. "In his street clothes."
