Seahawks announce agreement with Terrell Owens
He's baaaaaack! Terrell Owens has agreed to a one year deal with the Seahawks. Hasn't signed it yet but agreed to terms
— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) August 7, 2012
The negotiation wasn't as fast as Terrell Owens' time in the 40-yard dash on Monday, but it was pretty speedy, as the Seahawks have agreed to terms with Owens, according to an announcement from the team. It is a one-year deal, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, who first reported the agreement.
Andrew Brandt is a former NFL executive with Green Bay, who now works for ESPN, and he reported the one-year contract was for $925,000, which would be the veteran minimum for a player with Owens' experience.
The 38-year-old Owens is one of the most prolific receivers in NFL history, but he's also a full season and one major knee surgery removed from his last game in the NFL.
He is as famous as he is infamous, a player who celebrated a touchdown against the Cowboys by posing on the star at midfield and pulled a pen out of his sock to sign a football after scoring a touchdown against the Seahawks during a Monday night game in 2002.
He ranks sixth in NFL history in career receptions, but has also played for five different NFL teams and recently has become a punchline around the league. He appeared on "Dr. Phil" with the mothers of two of his children earlier this year. He was released by the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League earlier this year, and has said most of his career earnings are gone.
Owens worked out for the Seahawks on Monday, which was a day off for players during training camp. Reports were that his workout was excellent, timed in the 40-yard dash at faster than 4.5 seconds, according to ESPN.
The Seahawks have been looking at veteran wide receivers for more than a month now, signing first Antonio Bryant - who was released Sunday -- then Braylon Edwards, who was added on Tuesday, and now the Seahawks are looking at Owens.
Edwards and Owens ranked second and third respectively in the league in touchdown passes, but that was five years ago.
At the very least, those are two physical receivers who will be able to test the Seahawks physical cornerbacks in practice. In a best-case scenario, Edwards and/or Owens would use this chance with Seattle to springboard back to the top of an NFL depth chart.
The reaction is already pouring out from the Seahawks' own locker room:
