Seahawks bringing in Terrell Owens for a tryout
RENTON -- The Seahawks aren't just bringing in a big-name receiver for a tryout on Monday. They're bringing in a receiver who's such a big name he's known by his initials: T.O.
Terrell Owens will try out for the Seahawks on Monday, which is a players' day off during training camp. Dave Mahler of KJR Sports Radio was first to report that Owens was traveling to Seattle. The team subsequently confirmed Owens would be trying out with the team on Monday.
Owens did not play in the league last season as he recovered from a left knee injury that required surgery. He caught 72 passes for the Bengals in 2010. Cincinnati was his third team in three years. He played for the Cowboys in 2008, Buffalo in 2009 and then Cincinnati.
Owens is 38, and his last topped 1,000 yards receiving in 2008. He played for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League this spring, appearing in eight games.
Consider it one more player in the Seahawks' redemption program for receivers, which started in 2010 when Mike Williams returned to the NFL after two years away. This year, the Seahawks signed Antonio Bryant, who had been out of the league two years, and last week added Braylon Edwards, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2005 draft who is coming off the worst season of his career.
