Russell Wilson gets full first day

RENTON -- Seattle began a three-day rookie minicamp with 54 players on the field, and one quarterback -- third-round pick Russell Wilson -- making all the throws.

"We wore him out," coach Pete Carroll said. "He went all day long."

That was 70-something plays in the team portion of the practice. Wilson looked great considering he was throwing to players for the first time. He completed more than two-thirds of his passes.

He did have four passes tipped, though, which is going to be a concern because of his height -- 5 feet 10 and five-eighths inches. There were also three botched snaps though it's impossible to assign blame on all of those, especially since one was a shotgun snap at his ankles.

Wilson's arm is impressive, though. He has a high release, and as a receiver would say, he throws a great ball.

First-round pick Bruce Irvin showed the kind of speed that you'd expect considering he was the fastest defensive linemen at the scouting combine. He ran cleanly around the left tackle (on that play, veteran Alex Barron) for what would have been a sack in a team drill. He also had a play where he pursued Wilson from the backside, showing great closing speed.

Lavasier Tuinei is an undrafted free agent from Oregon, who is 6-4 and looks very strong going up to get the ball. He was dogged by injuries the past two years for the Ducks.

Other notes: Alex Barron is a former first-round pick of the St. Louis Rams, who later played for the Dallas Cowboys. He was not on a regular-season roster, but he's one of the 34 players the Seahawks have in four a three-day tryout. E.J. Savannah, the former Washington linebacker from Bellevue High School, is also on a tryout as is Renard Williams of Eastern Washington and fullback Bryson Kelly of Central.

Safety Winston Guy -- Seattle's sixth-round pick -- is not participating in the practices as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
