Who be the QB? That is Seahawks' biggest question

RENTON -- Tarvaris Jackson took the first snap Friday.

The fact that this merits mentioning gives you an idea about just how closely the situation under center is being monitored here in Seattle.

There will be a competition at quarterback. Coach Pete Carroll has been saying that ever since Seattle signed Matt Flynn in free agency, and now that Seattle has actually began working with footballs, it's going to be the foremost question facing this franchise.

We'll want to know just how open that competition is. We'll want to know who's leading it. We'll want to know when it will be decided.

The sooner the better really, so when the Seahawks finished an offseason workout Friday, coach Pete Carroll was asked who's leading.

"Who said 'competition' the most?" Carroll said. "Whoever said that word the most when they were up here getting interviewed, he's ahead right now."

Well, that would be Jackson. He said some derivative of "compete" 10 different times compared to five for Flynn. Call it a veteran's advantage when it comes to invoking one of Carroll's favorite buzzwords.
