Cornerback Marcus Trufant is returning to the Seahawks, the team announced Monday, after the two sides agreed to terms on a one-year deal.

Trufant was released by the team one month ago, and the timing of that move was said to be so Trufant could take a full survey of any free-agent opportunities.

Trufant visited the Denver Broncos as a free agent, but was not known to take a look at any other teams. He returns to Seattle, where he remains the longest-tenured member of the team. Trufant played nine seasons with Seattle since he was chosen in the first round of the 2003 draft with the No. 11 overall pick.

Trufant has missed portions of two of the previous three seasons because of a back injury.

Update: When Trufant was released last month, the explanation was easy. His contract called for him to make $7.2 million in 2012, so it was very evident he wasn't going to play at that number, especially considering he had renegotiated his 2011 base salary before the season started.

Denver was interested in Trufant, and the fact that he's returning points to the reality that Walter Thurmond is still coming back from a broken leg, and it's far from a sure thing he will be ready for training camp.

Update at 4:09 p.m.: In fact, Thurmond is expected to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, which would indicate a setback in his recovery from the injury. If a player is on the PUP list after the final roster cuts, he must miss at least the first six games before being activated.
