He played defensive end for the Tennessee Titans last season, but he's really a defensive tackle.

Yet he is 6 feet 5, which is taller than most defensive tackles. He weighs 275 pounds, which is lighter than many tackles, too.

In fact, Jones is significantly lighter than the three behemoths Seattle starts in Brandon Mebane (311 punds), Alan Branch (325) and Red Bryant (323, wink).

Which leaves the question, where will Jones fit?

"We really have needed since the day we got here an inside pass rush ability," coach Pete Carroll said Monday. "Jason has unusual quickness for a long, tall guy and he has a good knack for rushing inside. "

Well that makes sense. The Seahawks pass rush has come primarily from defensive end Chris Clemons the previous two seasons as he has totaled 22 sacks. Last year, no one else on Seattle's roster had more than four sacks.

Seattle sees Jones as a versatile player who will become a big part of their passing-down packages, which is when starting defensive end Red Bryant often comes off the field.

"We're hoping that we can really feature him in all of our nickel package stuff," Carroll said of Jones, "and also fit him in to other situations that will suit him. But we'd like to see him as an inside rusher for those packages and then we'll play him some outside and times in some different spots that try to utilize his quickness."
