Seahawks re-sign Breno Giacomini
Breno Giacomini has re-signed with the Seahawks, agreeing to a multi-year deal with the team. Terms were not disclosed by the team, but it is a two-year deal.
Giacomini was one of the nearly 20 players scheduled to be unrestricted free agents.
According to the contract information on file with the NFL Players Association, Giacomini is scheduled to earn a base salary of $1.5 million in 2012, $3 million in 2013. According to Brian McIntyre of Mac's Football Blog, Giacomini received a $1.5 million signing bonus.
If all incentives are reached, Giacomini could earn more than $7 million under the contract.
Giacomini, 26, was originally a fifth-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers, chosen out of Louisville. The Seahawks acquired him in September 2010, claiming him off Green Bay's practice squad.
He started eight games at right tackle for the Seahawks last season, including the final seven after first-round draft pick James Carpenter suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Giacomini showed himself to be a capable starter, and re-signing him lessens the urgency of Carpenter's recovery from a torn anterior-cruciate ligament (ACL). If Carpenter begins training camp on the physically unable to perform list (PUP), Seattle has a player prepared to start at right tackle.
