The Seahawks have chosen two quarterbacks in the previous seven drafts combined. The Colts, Cowboys and Jaguars are the only teams that have picked fewer, but that's part of a larger trend in Seattle where it has been 19 years since the Seahawks chose Rick Mirer with the second pick of the 1993 draft.

There have been 208 quarterbacks drafted into the NFL since then, 44 of them chosen in the first round of the draft. Washington has picked three quarterbacks in the first round in that time. So have the Oilers-turned-Titans.

But the Seahawks are one of four teams who have not chosen a quarterback in the first round of any draft since 1993. The Cowboys, Saints and the Patriots - who picked Drew Bledsoe in the slot before Seattle took Mirer - are the other three.

The Seahawks have picked six quarterbacks in the past 19 drafts, which ranks in the middle third of the NFL for players picked during that time. What's more telling, though, in terms of the way Seattle has approached that position in the draft is that none of those six quarterbacks were chosen in either of the first two rounds of the draft.

This is about more than just the tenure of John Schneider and Pete Carroll obviously. It goes beyond Tim Ruskell, too. Mike Holmgren's approach to the position was to try and pick a quarterback in the back half of the draft every year, and before he arrived, the Seahawks had gone five years without picking a quarterback in any round, a stretch that started the year after the Seahawks chose Mirer.
