All quiet (for now) regarding Tom Cable
"I don't want to expect that because I want him to stay here forever," Carroll said. "He's a really good football coach, and he has a tremendous impact on a football team. We felt it. It was a tremendous get for us to have Tom come here."
Cable is Seattle's fourth offensive line coach in three seasons, and the Seahawks sincerely hope they won't be going to a fifth coach in four seasons.
But with coaching jobs open across the league, that could be a possibility, as the improvement of Seattle's run game in Cable's first year as offensive-line coach and associate head coach showed remarkable progress.
Marshawn Lynch became Seattle's first 1,000-yard rushing in six years, and the Seahawks climbed from No. 31 in the league in rushing to No. 21.
"It's just a matter of time before somebody recognizes that and wants to come after him," Carroll said. "I don't know when that's going to happen. I'm cutting the wires on his telephone here, get his calls. I better get his cell phone instead, huh? As far as I know, nothing has happened at this point."
The Seahawks have had two coaches from their staff accept other positions. Luke Butkus -- the team's assistant offensive line coach -- is headed to his alma mater Illinois where he will be the offensive line coach. Jeff Ulbrich, Seattle's assistant special teams coach the past two seasons, will join Jim Mora's staff at UCLA where he will coach special teams.
