Seahawks WR Sidney Rice to undergo shoulder surgery
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Rice was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 30 after suffering two concussions in the span of three games.
At the time he went on injured reserve, there was no indication he would be undergoing surgery.
Coach Pete Carroll said Rice didn't suffer a setback per se, but there was a decision made to undergo surgery.
"Some time ago, we knew he was going to have surgery," Carroll said. "We just put it off to this date. I don't know exactly why it was put it off to this date, but there has been a few weeks we could have put it off earlier."
Rice indicated via his Twitter account that he got out of surgery on Tuesday. The recovery time is estimated at three to four months, and Rice indicated he expects to be ready for the organized training activities this offseason.
The only other offseason surgery that Carroll disclosed Tuesday was that cornerback Richard Sherman is going to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his knee.
As for quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, the possibility of a surgery to repair a pectoral muscle has not been ruled out entirely.
"They're still going to wait and see in the next couple weeks," Carroll said of Jackson. "But they are encouraged. His arm strength came back, and if that's not full velocity, it was pretty darn close to it ... He's encouraged that he doesn't have to have surgery ... barring any other information right now, it looks like he might not have to do that. That would really be a big boost to his offseason obviously because it's a three or four month deal if you do it."
