Seahawks WR Sidney Rice almost certainly out for Thursday's game
Posted by Danny O'Neil
"Very slim that he has any chance of playing," Carroll said.
Rice left Sunday's game with a head injury. It is the second concussion he has suffered in three games, and Carroll said that fact is a factor in the decision. The league also has a protocol for the evaluation of players who leave a game with a concussion, and they must be cleared before they are able to return. The fact Seattle plays Thursday this week, four days earlier than normal, is also a factor.
Rice is a starting wide receiver for Seattle, and he will be replaced in the lineup by Ben Obomanu. Golden Tate will also get more playing time.
Rice ranks second on the team with 32 catches. He initially suffered the head injury after a 3-yard gain on a backward pass that was actually ruled a rush in the first half. He remained in the game after being evaluated. He left the game in the third quarter after he dove for a pass, hitting his head on the ground, and was obviously woozy getting up.
Rice has played the last eight games after missing the first two games because of a shoulder injury.
