Tarvaris Jackson overcomes rough start, feels better

Posted by Danny O'Neil

RENTON -- Tarvaris Jackson couldn't have started off much worse than he did Sunday when his first two passes of the game were intercepted.

He came out of the game OK, though, which is better than he has been in the three previous games he played since suffering a strained pectoral muscle on Oct. 9 at New York.

"This was the best he felt on a day after a game," coach Pete Carroll said. "I don't know what that means, but we're encouraged by anything on the positive side."

Jackson was intercepted twice in Sunday's game and sacked four times in the first half, but he did throw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice, putting some on a quick-slant route.

Jackson's was limited in practice on Wednesday and Friday last week, and Thursday was the only day in which he threw passes during practice. Was that lack of practice time a factor in Sunday's start?

"I don't know," Carroll said. "That would be easy to say that so let's go ahead and say that right now. I don't know. He just didn't see the linebacker on the first one, and he just waited to make the throw he made on the second one. It would make sense -- if practice is pretty important in our program around here, you know -- and if you can't practice, how could you expect him to play at his best level? So we're trying to figure that out and trying to balance it."

As for Sunday's performance?

"We were all surprised by the way we started," Carroll said. "What was really great about it was the way he regrouped and he played well throughout the rest of the game and everybody rallied. We didn't lose focus on what's going on. That was more important than anything, really."

The only other significant injury the Seahawks suffered in Sunday's game was to wide receiver Ben Obomanu, who has a sore knee and ankle that could limit him.

"He's pretty sore today," Carroll said on Monday. "We'll get to Wednesday and see what happens. It's not so bad that they can call it that he's out. It's not that kind of deal, but they've got to wait and see. He's a really tough dude, and he comes back from stuff, and we're going to give him a chance because he has overcome a lot of stuff in the past."

Beating the Rams is no great feat. Heck, even Charlie beat them...  Posted on November 23, 2011 at 7:31 AM by Ronbo. Jump to comment
Any other team on the road we would have been blown out. QB has to take care of the ball. Period. Kudos to our D helping us win another one.  Posted on November 22, 2011 at 6:32 AM by mofo. Jump to comment
